Why the environmental movement will die out

The London Daily Mail has a story on a woman who aborted her baby ten years ago to save the planet. The mail describes the woman:

While some might think it strange to celebrate the reversal of nature and denial of motherhood, Toni relishes her decision with an almost religious zeal.

Oh, make no mistake. This is a religious zeal.

It’s official. The environment is now more important to environmentalists than people. They are sacrificing their own children on the altar of Environmentalism. This one scares me.

Having children is the opposite of selfish. After just less than one year of being a father, I’ve learned selfishness and parenting are not compatible. This woman doesn’t have a clue about the significance of parenthood. What is selfish is killing your child so he or she won’t use more carbon than you are comfortable with.

However, as long as these people have the courage of their convictions, they will ultimately fail. As they die out, their only hope is to convert other people’s children to their religion that worships the planet over the life of humans. It didn’t work for the Shakers. It won’t work for the environmentalists.

Bike to Work

June 21 is Bike to Work Day for the Denver metro area. I encourage everyone in the Denver area to bike to work that day. It is ‘good for the environment’ and will give you some excercise.

Remember, everyone one of you that bikes to work that day is one less car that will be in traffice while I’m driving. I thank you.

CFL or not to CFL?

Why I’m not replacing any incandescent bulbs in my house with compact flourescent bulbs:

How much money does it take to screw in a compact fluorescent lightbulb? About $4.28 for the bulb and labor — unless you break the bulb. Then you, like Brandy Bridges of Ellsworth, Maine, could be looking at a cost of about $2,004.28, which doesn’t include the costs of frayed nerves and risks to health.

Aware that CFLs contain potentially hazardous substances (i.e. mercury), Bridges called her local Home Depot for advice. The store told her that the CFL contained mercury and that she should call the Poison Control hotline, which in turn directed her to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

Steven Milloy calculates that it will take 11 years of energy savings for Ms. Bridges to recoup the cleanup cost. That assumes she doesn’t break any more CFL bulbs in the meantime.

No thanks. I think I’ll wait for LED bulb technology to get better before I go out to replace my incandescent bulbs.

Sucking the joy out of life

An environmental group is now claiming that “new car smell” is toxic. According to them new car interiors have dangerous levels of chemicals.

We know their claim is true from all the new car owners who are vearing off the road after being overcome by toxins and collapsing behind the wheel. Wait, that isn’t happening. Somehow our society has survived decades with new car smell – this silent killer (insert scary music here: da da da dum!). Thankfully these people warned me before I drove my new Elantra any more. At least I’ll take precautions now, like sticking my head out the window whenever I’m driving. Or maybe not.

I feel sorry for these people. They go through life looking for hidden dangers and can’t even enjoy one of the smaller pleasures in life – that new car smell.
